We all know Gateshead town centre isn’t what it should be. For years, we’ve lived with the flyover cutting it off from the Quays and making it harder to get around.
Now it’s coming down, we have a real chance to build a new town centre. But taking down the flyover isn’t enough. We need proper investment in what comes next.
That means a new Metro and bus station – maybe with a different name
It means backing our high street businesses to grow and employ local people.
And it means creating a town centre where people want to meet, shop, work and spend time.
This is our town centre, so its future should be shaped by us.
